Stick To The Plan

“Many plans are in a man’s mind, But it is the Lord’s purpose for him that will stand (be carried out).”

Proverbs 19:21 (amp)

I can't believe how fast this month is going by! I’m not sure about you but I personally had a number of things planned for this month and marking them off the list may not happen. There’s something about marking off a list that feels good but not being able to mark off the entire list can be a bit frustrating. I’m sure we have all been there before but sometimes we have to stop and ask ourselves this question about our list(s) , “Are these things a part of God’s plan for my life?”

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans.” There are three things that we will never be able to out plan, God’s Will, God’s Plan, and God’s Timing. This is where purpose resides. If our plans do not align with our God-given purpose, they will fail. It doesn’t mean that we won’t accomplish certain things. It means that those things will require us to exhaust resources, time, and energy that we can’t get back. Often these resources are intended for something else that we are too short sighted to see in the moment. I’ve been there and being in this position can be draining. This isn’t how we should live as Believers.

So what should we do when we find ourselves attempting to enact our own plans through works of the flesh?

1. Stop and make the nearest u-turn!

Seriously we need to listen to our spiritual GPS, the Holy Spirit. If we do so, we will never be led astray.

2. Pray and ask for help

We have to humble ourselves and ask the Lord to guide us in our day-to-day responsibilities and as we establish our plans and goals.

3. Accept that God already has a plan for your life

Yes, this should have been the first but if we are honest, this can be difficult. Prayer and reflection in God’s presence will soften our hearts and help us to hear and acknowledge His voice.

God’s plan and purpose for our lives will always prevail. So let’s stick to the plan!
