Living A Decluttered Life

“But be sure that everything is done properly and in order.”

-1 Corinthians 14:40(nlt)

I will speak for myself and say that when I think of a word like declutter, I think of a few spaces in my house. You know we all have that one room where the door remains closed when company comes over. I have to giggle to myself when I think of how my mom always offers to clean up that one room in my house for me when I know that she really wants to say, “I raised you better than this!” I digress but I’m giggling to myself.Truthfully, it can be a little embarrassing to face the reality of the clutter that we amass over time.

Have you ever stopped to consider how cluttered our spiritual lives can be at times? We hear God speaking clearly to our hearts about things that we need to change, adjust, or even get rid of. Instead of following His lead, we choose to store, hoard, and even attempt to hide things that we don’t want to let go of. Over time that space that should be filled with his presence and peace is filled with well, junk!

I am talking to myself too ladies. 1 Corinthians 13:33a says,” For God is not a God of disorder but of peace.” These were Paul’s words to the church in Corinth because they were caught up in a debate about spiritual gifts and needed guidance on how to conduct themselves in general. These words, however, are relevant today and especially as it relates to the clutter that we find ourselves living with spiritually. Here’s a question for us to consider and reflect on this week: “Do I want to continue living in spiritual chaos and disorder or am I willing to allow God to invade the cluttered spaces in my life so that I can live according to His will and plan for my life?

Let’s make a commitment to leave the clutter from 2020 behind so that we can live in peace and Godly order this year!
