Search Me (thoroughly), O God, and know my heart; Test me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way. Psalms 139:23 (amplified) This was the cry of David’s heart in the latter part of this particular chapter as he grappled with his enemies but if we go back to the beginning of this scripture, we will see that he had already acknowledged that God knew everything there was to know about him in verses 1-4: “ O Lord, you have searched me (thoroughly) and have known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up (my entire life, everything I do); You understand my thoughts from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, and You are intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue (still unspoken), Behold, O, Lord, You Know it ALL” David developed an intimate relationship with God in the midst of numerous trials and tribulation. Some of them were even self-inflicted but he consistently laid bear his flaws to God knowing that God was already well acquainted with the good, bad, and ugly parts of his life. We can focus so much on standards of outward beauty to the extent that we fail to address the downright ugly things taking place on the inside of us. Eventually those things will boil up to the surface if we continue to act as if they don’t exist. We should willingly take them to the Lord. He already knows you. He created you. Our flaws do not negate who we are in Him. They exist so that we can lean into Him. His presence is a judgment free zone but His presence also brings us an awareness of the areas where we need Him the most. So let’s do ourselves a favor and come to Him daily, flaws and all. ]\
